A training session lasts just 20 minutes and is always conducted with a qualified trainer, who monitors the training and its success. Participants wear a medically certified training base layer consisting of a shirt and shorts (professional specific functional underwear) made up of a specific fabric blend optimal for WB-EMS training.
Electrodes are then placed on the 8 major muscle groups:
An electrode vest is worn over the base layer along with electrode straps for the legs and arms and an electrode belt placed on the glutes.
A certified trainer or technician then connects the trainee to the WB-EMS device to the WB-EMS vest and begins the 20 minute session.
A WB-EMS session consists of low impact functional exercises (i.e. squats, crunches, lunges, or bicep curls). Specific movements can be included depending on the training goals (i.e. physical therapy, competitive sports) all led by the certified trainer.
During the session, impulses are delivered through the electrodes to the muscles. By adding static/dynamic exercises during WB-EMS, muscle contraction and training is greatly intensified. It is crucial the trainee is flexing and squeezing their muscles during the impulse for maximum results.
Muscle contraction initiated by WB-EMS is more intense than those activated in traditional strength training with comparatively low stress on the joints.
During the session, over 90% of the muscles are activated simultaneously throughout all major muscles groups. Each muscle reacts with 85 contractions per second - compared to 1-2 muscle contractions per second in an isolated muscle during traditional strength training. WB-EMS is able to activate hard to reach muscles and deeper muscle fibers compared to traditional strength training.

Depending on the impulse frequency being used during the session, WB-EMS can feel like a gentle tingle, buzzing or tapping in the muscles.
There are three different training parameters used:
STRENGTH (85 Hz) - feels like a strong but smooth buzz throughout the body. The trainee will begin to feel muscle fatigue or "feel the burn" as the 20 minute session progresses
MUSCULAR ENDURANCE (7 Hz) - feels like a tapping throughout the body's muscles.
This setting improves circulation and activates the muscle for improved endurance and cardio
BODY RELAX (100 Hz) - feels like an ultra light buzzing in throughout the body - almost like a massage. This setting is used for muscle relaxation, pain relief and recovery.
The strength program (85 Hz) is the primary mode on the machine. During a strength session, the impulses are delivered in a 4 second on, 4 second off cadence. This rhythm was scientifically proven to produce the best strength results. All exercises are performed during the 4 seconds of impulse.
The session is always well within the abilities of the trainee - trainers are there to customize the intensities of the impulses and the exercises.
Post WB-EMS session, trainees can experience soreness and mild fatigue so it is important to hydrate properly before and after the session.
Due to the intensity of WB-EMS trainings, sessions are only allowed 1x per week for 20 mins maximum.
The muscle breakdown that occurs during a WB-EMS session is 10x higher than running a marathon.
